10-29-09
CALDWELL, N.J. – A luncheon recognizing the Caldwell College student-athletes who received the Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award was held Wednesday afternoon. Thirteen of the 20 student-athletes who earned the award in August gathered in the lobby of the George R. Newman Center with members of the athletics department, including Executive Director of Athletics Mark A. Corino and Assistant Director of Athletics Katie Kennedy, who organized the event.

"We wanted to do a little something for you to show our appreciation for what you have accomplished," Corino told the student-athletes. "You are examples of what we strive for at Caldwell College and at the Division II level, which is being successful in the classroom as well as on the playing fields. We are proud to have you represent the institution in such a positive way, and I commend you on your achievement."

Sister Elaine Keenan, Caldwell's Vice President for Student Life, also spoke to the student-athletes. Faculty Athletics Representative Patrick Sime and Athletics Administrator Megan Hrbek, who coordinates the CHAMPS/Life Skills program at Caldwell, were in attendance, along with other coaches and administrators.

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, have completed a minimum of two years of college level work, and have played an intercollegiate sport during the past year. Caldwell College was one of 115 institutions that participated in the 2008-09 awards program, which honored 4,020 Division II student-athletes.
