CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell College senior women's basketball players Phylicia Holmes
(Roselle, NJ/Roselle) and Dana Leary
(Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) were included on the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference All-Academic Team for the 2007-08 winter athletic season, the
conference announced today. This is the third time on the CACC All-Academic
team for both Holmes and Leary. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore
and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 to be included on
the All-Academic team.
Holmes, a computer information systems major at Caldwell, made the
All-Academic Team last winter, as well as in the fall of 2006 as a member of
the Cougar volleyball team. One of the team's best rebounders during her
career, Holmes snared 685 rebounds while scoring 631 points in 107 games.
This past season, she averaged 5.3 points and 6.4 boards per game.
Leary received all-CACC honorable mention honors this past season after
averaging 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. In her final home game,
Leary scored her 1,000th career point in an overtime victory over Nyack
College, becoming the 10th Cougar women's basketball player to reach the
1,000-point milestone since 1987. She finished her career with 1,049 points, 546 rebounds
and 209 assists in 108 games. A psychology major, Leary is the only member
of this year's CACC Winter All-Academic Team to have earned the honor three
times.
Holmes and Leary helped the Cougars record a winning record for the first
time since 2003, finishing 18-12 and advancing to the ECAC championship
game. Both were chosen to the ECAC all-Tournament team.
One hundred and 29 student-athletes from all 13
member schools in eight sports have earned CACC All-Academic Team honors thus far in the 2007-08 academic year.
This past fall, eleven Caldwell student-athletes were named to the CACC All-Academic
Team.
