CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell College is hosting the 2005 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament, beginning Thursday, May 5 through Saturday, May 7, at the campus softball fields. The top six teams in the final CACC standings qualify for the tournament, with the tournament champion earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Tournament, held May 12-15.

The Caldwell College Cougars (33-8, 16-2 CACC), who currently are ranked 12^th in the nation, clinched their second straight CACC regular-season title to earn the tournament’s No. 1 seed. The other five spots are still up for grabs, as several conference games were postponed due to the weather this past weekend. The Cougars, coached by Dean Johnson, will play the winner of the game between the fourth and fifth seeds at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Admission to the entire CACC Softball Tournament is free.

Five games will be played on Thursday, May 5 to kick off the double-elimination tournament, with three games to follow on Friday, May 6. The champion will be determined on Saturday, May 7. Here’s the complete CACC Tournament schedule:

Game 3: Winner of Game 1 vs. No. 1 Caldwell College, 2:00 p.m.

Game 4: Winner of Game 2 vs. No. 2 Georgian Court, 2:00 p.m.

Game 5: Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 4:00 p.m.

Friday, May 6

Game 6: Semifinal lowest seed vs. Winner of Game 5, 12:00 p.m.

Game 7: Semifinal highest seed vs. Winner of Game 6, 2:00 p.m.

Game 8: Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4, 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 7
