CARAWAY NAMED ASSISTANT AD FOR COMPLIANCE/STUDENT WELFARE
9-4-09
CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College Athletic Department announces
the hiring of Katie Caraway as the Assistant Director of Athletics
for NCAA Compliance and Student-Athlete Welfare. Caraway will serve as the liaison
between the NCAA and Caldwell's 11 intercollegiate athletics programs in
regards to NCAA policies, and will also be involved with Caldwell's
CHAMPS/Life Skills program that is coordinated by athletics administrator
Megan Hrbek.
"I'm excited to join the athletic department at Caldwell College," Caraway
said. "This new role will allow me to help student-athletes prepare for life
after college and athletics through the CHAMPS/Life Skills program. I'm also
looking forward to working with our coaches and administrators to comply
with NCAA Division II policies."
The position is a part of the NCAA Division II Strategic Alliance Matching
Grant Enhancement Program, which is designed to aid Division II colleges and
universities to enhance gender and ethnic minority representation in
intercollegiate athletics. The NCAA accepted Caldwell's proposal for a grant
that will help fund this position over the next three years.
"We are glad to have Katie fill this new role in athletics," said
Mark A. Corino, Executive Director of Athletics. "The grant allows
our department to move closer to becoming an NCAA Division II model
institution while improving our capabilities of serving the development and
welfare of our student-athletes. It also provides us with an opportunity to
reorganize our athletics personnel to expand the external branch of the athletic
department."
Caraway graduated from the University of Florida in 2006 with a
bachelor's degree in public relations. She began working at Caldwell College
in January of 2008 as an IT Support Specialist, and has also served as the
College's cheerleading coordinator. A native of Dunnellon, Fla., Caraway
currently resides in Caldwell, N.J.
