CALDWELL COLLEGE JOINS NCAA'S CHAMPS/LIFE SKILLS
PROGRAM
9-20-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. – The Caldwell College athletic department has been selected for the
NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, the NCAA announced. The CHAMPS/Life Skills
Program assists NCAA member institutions with the overall development of
their student-athletes. Caldwell College is one of 39 institutions and
conference offices that have been selected into the CHAMPS/Life Skills Class
of 2008. The program now includes 584 campuses and conference offices
nationwide.
"This is a good opportunity for our student-athletes to understand the
responsibility of being a student-athlete, whether they are in the
classroom, in the community or on the playing field," said Mark A. Corino,
Caldwell's Executive Director of Athletics. "It's another example of the
College's commitment to providing additional benefits for the overall
experience of our students."
As a member of the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, Caldwell College will have
access to instructional materials and supplemental resources which support a
student-athlete's development in five areas: academics, athletics, personal
development, career development and community service. These materials will
enhance the resources Caldwell already has in place, such as the Student
Development Center and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Megan
Hrbek, Athletics Administrator and the Cougars' head volleyball coach,
will serve as Caldwell's CHAMPS/Life Skills coordinator.
"The CHAMPS/Life Skills Program includes many of the things we do here
regarding the well-being of our student-athletes," Hrbek said. "The program
will help to organize these efforts and will provide us with more resources
to continue our commitment to our student-athletes' overall development."
Caldwell College, which has 11 intercollegiate athletic programs that
compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, became a full member
of the NCAA Division II in 2002. |
