FALL SEMESTER DEAN'S LIST INCLUDES 33 STUDENT-ATHLETES

2-3-05
CALDWELL, N.J. – Participating in a competitive intercollegiate sport while fulfilling academic responsibilities as a full-time student is a difficult balancing act. Thirty-three student-athletes at Caldwell College have shown they have mastered that balancing act, as they were named to the Dean's List for the 2004 fall semester. Students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester to make the Dean's List.

Sandra Jennings, the Director of Academic Advisement at Caldwell College, said that there has been an increasing number of Caldwell's student-athletes in the past few years who have earned this academic honor. "When the Dean's List came out and I started highlighting our student-athletes on the list, I was amazed that so many student-athletes continue to meet the challenge of balancing academics and athletics," Jennings said. "During the playing season, there is such a demand on the student-athlete's time and energy."

Jennings, who monitors student-athletes' academic schedule, course selection and progress, is part of the support provided by the College to help student-athletes handle the academic requirements along with their commitment to their sport.

"The administration, faculty and coaches have all supported the athletes' academic success. We do everything we can to help them be successful," she said. "But they really help themselves. What strikes me most about these student-athletes is that they understand the value of both academics and playing a sport. This group is exceptional."

Mark A. Corino, Executive Director of Athletics at Caldwell College, agreed. "To have so many student-athletes on the Dean's List is a credit to the commitment of the student-athletes to succeed in the classroom, as well as the commitment of the coaches and the College to help the student-athletes achieve that goal."
