CALDWELL, N.J. – Caldwell College Executive Director of Athletics Mark A.
Corino has hired two assistant coaches for the Cougar soccer programs.
Bevin Walsh, a 2001 graduate of Caldwell College, returns to her alma
mater to assist first-year head coach Steve O'Neal with the women's
soccer team, and Matt McLagan joins the staff of men's soccer coach
Jamie Nash.
Walsh was a forward on the first
intercollegiate Cougar women's soccer team and played at Caldwell College from 1997 to 2000. A native of
Kearny, N.J., Walsh was a standout player at Kearny High School, earning
all-Hudson County honors as a junior. Walsh, who earned a Bachelor's degree in
education and social studies, is a language arts teacher at Washington School
in Kearny.
"Since I was a part of the first women's soccer team at Caldwell College, I
feel a sense of ownership towards the program," Walsh said. "It's exciting for
me to come back and help the program become successful."
McLagan adds the role of assistant men's soccer coach to his duties as
Caldwell College's sports information director. A native of West St. Paul,
Minn., and a 1992 graduate of the University of Minnesota, McLagan brings
seven years of youth and high school soccer coaching experience in Minnesota,
Maryland and Arizona to the Cougars' men's soccer program. He begins his
second year as the sports information director at Caldwell College.
Last fall both of the Cougar soccer programs set school records for wins in a
season. The women's team was 11-8-2, finished third in the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference and advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament.
The men's squad was 13-8-2 and also played in the semifinals of the conference
tournament while earning a final ranking of No. 7 in the New England Region
rankings.
