6-20-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. – Caldwell College women's soccer player Marcy Reda
(Phillipsburg, NJ/Bethlehem Academy) was awarded the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference Sportsmanship Award, CACC Commissioner Dan Mara
announced Tuesday. Reda, a four-year starter on the Cougars' soccer team,
and Holy Family's Chris Drissel are the CACC's nominations for the 2007 NCAA
Male and Female Sportsmanship Awards and will appear on the national ballot.
Reda was a fixture on the Cougars' back line for four seasons, playing in 74
games in her career while helping the Cougars win 33 games, the highest
total in a four-year period in the program's history. She earned CACC
All-Academic Team honors three times and served as the team's captain as a
junior and senior. A mathematics major who graduated from Caldwell College this spring, Reda also was active on campus. She was a leader for the music ministry
during the Catholic Liturgy on Sunday evenings, and was an active member of
BACCHUS (Boost
Alcohol
Consciousness Concerning Health of University Students), which promotes
awareness of the dangers involved in alcohol consumption.
"We are proud of Marcy's accomplishments and congratulate her on receiving
this prestigious honor," said Mark A. Corino, Caldwell's Executive
Director of Athletics. "She has been an asset to Caldwell College and the
community during her four years here, and she certainly deserves to be
recognized for her achievements."
The NCAA Sportsmanship Award honors student-athletes who have distinguished
themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The award is
administered by the Committee on Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct formed in
1997. Each Division II Conference is allowed to nominate one male and one
female candidate for the award.
