COUGARS ADVANCE AT REGIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I.: Second-seeded Caldwell defeated No. 3 Saint Anselm College (30-21), 2-1 on May 13, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Baseball Tournament at Bryant College.

The game featured a pitchers dual between Michael Kolesar of Caldwell (28-14) and Ryan Fecteau of Saint Anselm. In the end, Kolesar outlasted Fecteau to set up a showdown with top-seeded Bryant on May 14 at 1:00 p.m.

Kolesar (9-1) pitched a complete-game, seven-hitter, allowing one earned run and seven hits while striking out eight. He also scored both runs of the game for the Cougars.

In the bottom of the first, Kolesar put Caldwell up 1-0 when he scored from second on a single by shortstop Ryan McGee and a subsequent fielding error by Saint Anselm left fielder Bill Curry.

Kolesar made it 2-0 in the bottom half of the eighth inning when he scored from third on a single to right by left fielder Fadul Bambino. Bambino finished the day 3 for 4 at the plate.
