CALDWELL BASEBALL PICKED FOURTH IN NCBWA NORTHEAST REGION PRESEASON POLL

2-18-05
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team was ranked fourth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Northeast Regional preseason poll, the organization announced. Additionally, senior pitcher/outfielder Mike Kolesar (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) was selected to the NCBWA Preseason All-Northeast Team. The Cougars received 30 points in the voting to tie with Dowling College for fourth, while defending Northeast Region champion Bryant College garnered all five first-place votes to receive the region's No. 1 ranking.

Caldwell is scheduled to play four teams that appear in the preseason top 10: No. 7 Stonehill College, No. 8 Southern Connecticut State, No. 9 Molloy College and No. 10 C.W. Post.

Last season, the Cougars captured the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament and advanced to the Northeast Regional for the first time in the program's history en route to a 28-16 overall record and a No. 2 final Northeast Region ranking. Kolesar, a 2004 Northeast Region first-team selection, went 9-1 with an earned-run average of 2.70 on the mound while batting .374 with 45 stolen bases. He led the conference in both ERA and stolen bases.

The Cougars get their 2005 schedule underway on Saturday, Mar. 5 with a double-header at Southern Connecticut State.
