HINES EARNS CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS
4-26-05
CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman right-hander Eric Hines
(Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Apr. 24. Hines
joins fellow freshman Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville)
as Cougars who have won the conference's weekly award for pitchers
this season.
In Sunday's 2-0 victory over Wilmington College, Hines walked the
first batter he faced, then proceeded to retire the next 19 batters to
hold the Wildcats without a hit through 6 1/3 innings. A single with
one out in the seventh broke up Hines' bid for a no-hitter, but he got
the next to batters to ground out to end the game. Hines (5-3), who
has pitched three shutouts and four complete games in his six
collegiate starts, struck out six while allowing just one hit and one
walk.
The Cougars (15-18) return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 26, when they
host Philadelphia University for a non-conference doubleheader. The
first game begins at 3:30 p.m. at Smith Field. Back
