CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College sophomore Tommy Murphy (Monroe,
NY/Washingtonville) was selected to the all-Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference first team for baseball in voting done by the
league's 10 head coaches, the conference announced today. Also,
freshman pitcher Stephen Pfeil
(Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Academy) made the all-CACC second team.
Murphy, who made the all-CACC first team as a utility player,
was one of the Cougars' top starting pitchers. He turned in a record
of 4-4 with an earned run average of 4.09 to rank second on the team
in both categories. In a 9-0 victory over Nyack College on Apr. 12,
Murphy hurled a two-hit shutout while striking out a career-best 13
batters. Also an outfielder, Murphy batted .318 with 15 RBIs and 13
stolen bases.
Pfeil,
left, was chosen the CACC and NJBCA Rookie of the Week two times
apiece during his debut season. He led the Cougars in wins (5-5), ERA
(3.98) and innings pitched (63 1/3) while striking out 50 compared to
just 13 walks. Pfeil, who served as a starter and reliever this
season, pitched three complete-game victories, including a 4-1 win
over league-leading Dominican College on Apr. 28 in which he allowed
just one run while fanning a career-high nine batters.
The Cougars, coached by Chris Reardon, completed the 2006 season with
an overall record of 18-25, including an 11-14 mark in conference
play.
