MURPHY CHOSEN CACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK

N.J. - Caldwell College sophomore right-hander Tommy Murphy
(Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Apr. 16, the
conference announced today. It is the second time in his career and
the first time this season that Murphy has received the CACC's weekly
award for pitchers.
Murphy hurled a two-hit shutout in the first game of a doubleheader at
Nyack College on Apr. 12 to propel the Cougars to a 9-0 victory. He
set a career high with 13 strikeouts in the game while allowing just
two walks. Murphy also had a strong week at the plate, batting .316
with four runs and three RBIs to help Caldwell go 4-1.
Last season as a freshman, Murphy tossed a one-hitter in his first
collegiate start to earn CACC Pitcher of the Week honors on Mar. 22,
2005.
Murphy and the Cougars host Felician College in a CACC doubleheader
beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Smith Field.
