PFEIL NAMED NJCBA ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE WEEK

4-6-06
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College freshman pitcher Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Academy) was named the Rookie Pitcher of the Week by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association for the week ending Apr. 2, the organization announced today. In two appearances, Pfeil was 1-0 with an earned run average of 0.79 last week.

In a 5-1 victory over Philadelphia University on Mar. 31, Pfeil allowed one run and six hits in 7 1/3 innings to earn his first win as a collegian. He also pitched four innings of scoreless relief in an 11-4 win at Molloy College on Mar. 28, giving up four hits while striking out three. For the week, Pfeil faced 46 batters without allowing a walk.

Pfeil becomes the second Caldwell College freshman to be honored by the NJCBA, as outfielder Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) was chosen the Rookie of the Week on Mar. 28.

Pfeil and the Cougars (8-12 overall, 2-3 CACC) are scheduled to make up a game with the University of Sciences today at 3:00 p.m. at Smith Field. They will host Wilmington College on Friday, Apr. 7, at 3:00 p.m.
