PFEIL REPEATS AS CACC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

N.J. - Caldwell College freshman pitcher Stephen Pfeil
(Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Academy) was named the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference's Rookie of the Week for the second straight week,
the conference announced today. Pfeil, who was 2-0 with an earned run
average of 1.42 for the week ending Apr. 30, also received the award
on Apr. 24.
In a 5-3 win over the University of Sciences on Tuesday, Pfeil came on
in relief and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run and two hits to
earn the victory. Then on Friday, Pfeil started and went the distance
at league-leading Dominican, holding the Chargers to one run on 10
hits while fanning a career-high nine batters in a 4-1 victory.
Pfeil, who also was named the Rookie Pitcher of the Week by the New Jersey
College Baseball Association on Apr. 6, is 5-4 with an ERA of 3.77 in
16 appearances this season. Caldwell is the only team in the
conference to have two players receive the Rookie of the Week award
twice this season. Outfielder
Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) received the honor on Mar. 14 and again on Apr. 10.
Pfeil and the Cougars (18-23 overall, 11-12 CACC) host a CACC
doubleheader against Bloomfield College on Wednesday, May 3, starting
at 3:00 p.m. at Smith Field.
