PFEIL REPEATS AS CACC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

5-1-06
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College freshman pitcher Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Academy) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's Rookie of the Week for the second straight week, the conference announced today. Pfeil, who was 2-0 with an earned run average of 1.42 for the week ending Apr. 30, also received the award on Apr. 24.

In a 5-3 win over the University of Sciences on Tuesday, Pfeil came on in relief and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run and two hits to earn the victory. Then on Friday, Pfeil started and went the distance at league-leading Dominican, holding the Chargers to one run on 10 hits while fanning a career-high nine batters in a 4-1 victory.

Pfeil, who also was named the Rookie Pitcher of the Week by the New Jersey College Baseball Association on Apr. 6, is 5-4 with an ERA of 3.77 in 16 appearances this season. Caldwell is the only team in the conference to have two players receive the Rookie of the Week award twice this season. Outfielder Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) received the honor on Mar. 14 and again on Apr. 10.

Pfeil and the Cougars (18-23 overall, 11-12 CACC) host a CACC doubleheader against Bloomfield College on Wednesday, May 3, starting at 3:00 p.m. at Smith Field.
