ST. THOMAS AQUINAS UPENDS CALDWELL IN BASEBALL

PARSIPPANY, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team saw its
four-game winning streak come to an end in a 20-2 defeat at the hands
of St. Thomas Aquinas College Thursday afternoon at Smith Field. The
loss dropped the Cougars to 13-15 on the season, while the Spartans
improved to 15-10.
St. Thomas Aquinas pounded Cougar pitching for 21 hits and seven home
runs, including three from Jason Pominski and two from John Muller.
The Spartans scored seven runs before Caldwell got on the board in the
bottom of the third on a groundout by junior Billy Ryan (Toms
River, NJ/Manchester) that scored sophomore Joe Hydro
(Flemington, NJ/Immaculata). The Cougars trailed 11-1 by the bottom of
the fifth, when freshman Aaron Hoffstatter (Glasco,
NY/Saugerties) singled home fellow frosh Jorge Torres (Coral
Springs, FL/Taravella) for Caldwell's other run.
Senior Derek York (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) lasted just 2
2/3 innings to fall to 2-3 on the season. The Spartans' Scott Craig
pitched five innings, allowing two hits and two runs to earn the
victory.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, Apr. 17, when they host
Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
doubleheader. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Smith Field.
