TORRES NAMED CACC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College freshman outfielder Jorge Torres (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) was selected the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week in the first weekly awards of the 2006 season, the conference announced Monday. Torres batted .286 in his first action as a collegian as the Cougars lost a pair of games at Southern Connecticut State on Sunday.

After going 0 for 3 in the first game of the doubleheader, Torres had two hits, including a double, and a stolen base to pace the Cougars in the second game. He started both games in centerfield for Caldwell (0-2).

Torres and the Cougars are scheduled to play at C.W. Post today and at Concordia College on Wednesday before heading to Fort Myers, Fla., for the Gene Cusic Classic, which starts on Mar. 18.
