N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team dropped a Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference game to Wilmington College, 7-1 Thursday
afternoon at Smith Field. The loss gives the Cougars a 17-21 overall
record and evens their conference mark at 10-10, while the Wildcats
improve to 23-18, 15-5 CACC.
Wilmington scored three runs in the first inning on a two-run home run
by Derek Pugh and a solo homer from Andy Chunn. Pugh and Chunn homered
again in the third to give the Wildcats a 5-0 lead. Single runs in the
fifth and sixth innings extended the advantage to 7-0. The Cougars
ended Mike Mundy's bid for a shutout when senior Nick Mauro
(Nutley, NJ/Nutley), pictured, singled home senior Landon Viessy
(Oakland Gardens, NY/Cardozo) in the bottom of the ninth.
Senior Anthony DeRogatis (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) went
the distance on the mound for Caldwell, allowing 11 hits and seven
runs while striking out eight in nine innings. Mundy gave up just five
hits and fanned 11 to earn the victory.
The Cougars return to CACC action when they play at Dominican College
on Friday, Apr. 28 in the first of three games with the Chargers. The
two teams will play a doubleheader at Smith Field on Saturday, Apr.
29, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
