CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team was selected to finish
fifth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, according to
the conference's Preseason Baseball Poll conducted by the league's
nine head coaches. The Cougars received 45 points in the poll, which
picked Dominican College to repeat as conference champions.
The Cougars, coached by Chris Reardon, were 18-25
overall and finished sixth in the conference standings with an 11-14
record in the league a year ago. Senior third-baseman Billy Ryan
(Toms River, NJ/Manchester), right, junior pitcher/outfielder
Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) and sophomore pitcher
Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Academy) lead
Caldwell's 12 returning players from 2006. Murphy and Pfeil were
all-CACC selections last year, while Ryan led the Cougars in batting
average (.344) and hits (51).
Caldwell begins its 2007 schedule in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with four
games from Feb. 23-25, beginning with a game against Molloy College.
