COUGARS REMAIN AT NO. 3 IN NCAA REGIONAL BASEBALL POLL
5-3-07
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team
stayed at No. 3 in this week's Division II Northeast Region Poll released Wednesday by
the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee. The Cougars (22-10), who also are
ranked seventh in the region by the National College Baseball
Writers Association, have clinched at least a share of the Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular-season title with an 11-4
record in conference play.
Caldwell, coached by Chris Reardon, were 4-2 last week,
splitting doubleheaders with Felician College and Philadelphia
University and picking up regional wins over Concordia College and
Dominican College. Then on Monday, the Cougars defeated defending
CACC champion Dominican in a conference game, 8-7 to ensure the
program's first regular-season crown since 2003. Freshman Adric
Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward, CC) singled home the
game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth, then fellow frosh
Robert Casal (Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep) retired the
side in order in the top of the ninth for the win.
The Cougars can wrap up the league title outright with a win today
at Post University. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m. at
Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn.
