COUGAR BASEBALL RANKED FOURTH IN NCBWA NORTHEAST REGION POLL
3-12-07
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team is ranked fourth
in the latest Northeast Regional Poll, which is conducted by the
National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The Cougars, who are
4-0 on the season, received 38 points in the poll, released today, and
are the highest ranked team from the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference. The NCAA Division II Northeast Region consists of schools
from the CACC, Northeast 10 Conference and East Coast Conference.
Caldwell, coached by Chris Reardon, added 14 newcomers to last
year's 18-25 team that finished sixth in the CACC. Freshman outfielder
Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) was one of four
freshmen to hit better than .400 in the Cougars' 4-0 trip to South
Carolina, leading his team with a batting average of .619. Saxon's
performance earned him CACC Rookie of the Week honors on Feb. 27,
while sophomore pitcher Eric Hines (Milltown,
NJ/Spotswood) picked up the league's Pitcher of the Week award that
same week after allowing two hits and a pair of unearned runs in a 9-2
victory over Dowling on Feb. 24.
Caldwell's four wins in Myrtle Beach, S.C., all came against ECC
squads, including Molloy College, the region's ninth-ranked team, and
Dowling College, which received votes in this week's poll.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 13 with a game at C.W.
