CHIARAPPA SELECTED TO ACBL ALL-STAR GAME
7-11-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College rising senior catcher Chris Chiarappa
(Elmont, NY/Holy Trinity) participated in the Atlantic Collegiate
Baseball League All-Star Game on July 7 at Lafayette College in
Lafayette, Pa. Chiarappa, who plays for the Jersey Pilots in the
ACBL, entered the game in the fifth inning to help the Wolff
Division All-Stars defeat the Kaiser Division All-Stars 6-2.
The ACBL is a NCAA-sanctioned summer league partially funded by
Major League Baseball for college players with remaining
eligibility. Players must be recommended by scouts or their college
coach to participate in the league, which includes players from
Division I, II and III colleges and universities as well as junior
colleges. Eight former ACBL All-Stars currently play in the major
leagues, including Craig Biggio of the Houston Astros and Jamie
Moyer of the Philadelphia Phillies.

A first team all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference selection
this past spring, Chiarappa is batting .250 with three doubles and
seven runs batted in in 17 games for the Pilots. He also has thrown
out six base runners in 18 stolen base attempts to rank second in
the league. The Pilots play their home games at Krausche Field in
North Plainfield and Torpey Field in Bridgewater.
Other Cougars playing in the ACBL include rising senior
pitcher/infielder Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville)
and rising sophomore pitcher Robert Casal (Howard Beach,
NY/St. Francis Prep), who both play for the Metro New York Cadets.
Murphy is 2-2 on the mound with a 3.45 earned run average in six
appearances, including two starts. He ranks first on the team with
14 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings. Casal, who was named to the all-CACC
first team as a freshman, is 0-2 with an ERA of 8.36 in three
starts. The Cadets play their home games at St. John's University
and Fordham University.
Chiarappa, Murphy and Casal helped Caldwell capture the 2007 CACC
regular-season title and advance to the NCAA Division II Northeast
Region Tournament for the second time in four years.
