SAXON, CASAL NAMED TO DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION SECOND TEAM

N.J. - Caldwell College freshmen
Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) and Robert Casal
(Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep) were selected to the Daktronics
NCAA Division II Baseball all-Northeast Region second team. The two
first-year players, who also were named to the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference first team last week, played significant roles
in the Cougars' run to this week's NCAA Division II Northeast Region
Tournament.
Saxon, the conference's Rookie of the Year, leads the Cougars with
13 home runs and 60 runs batted in while batting .373 in 37 games this
season. He
currently leads the nation in RBIs per game and ranks eighth in
homers per game to help the Cougars rank 11th nationally in scoring.
At last week's CACC Tournament, Saxon batted .533 with eight hits,
five runs, seven RBIs, two doubles and a triple in four games to earn
the conference's Rookie of the Week award and a spot on the
all-Tournament team.
Casal
also has contributed to the team's success in his first collegiate
season, leading Caldwell in victories (nine), earned run average
(3.66), innings pitched (66 1/3) and strikeouts (65). He improved to
9-1 on the season with an 11-4 win over Felician College at the CACC
Tournament. Casal, who also made the all-Tournament team, struck out
10 batters while allowing seven hits and four runs (two earned) in 7
2/3 innings against the Golden Falcons.
The Daktronics All-Northeast Region teams were selected by the sports
information directors of the NCAA Division II colleges in the Northeast
Region, which consists of the teams from the CACC, the East Coast Conference
and the Northeast-10 Conference.
The Cougars are seeded fourth and play third-seeded UMass-Lowell today
in the first round of the NCAA Division II Northeast Region
Tournament. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Pappas Field
in Rindge, N.H.
