2-27-07
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College baseball players Eric Hines
(Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) and Adric Saxon (Coral Springs,
FL/Broward CC) were honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference's weekly awards for the week ending Feb. 25, announced
today. Hines, a sophomore pitcher, was named the Pitcher of the
Week, while Saxon, a freshman outfielder, was chosen the league's
Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Cougars open the 2007 season
with a 4-0 record in South Carolina.
Hines, left, who sat out most of the 2006 season with an injury,
showed no signs of rust in Caldwell's 9-2 win over Dowling College
on Feb. 24. The CACC's Newcomer of the Year in 2005, Hines held the
Lions to two hits and two unearned runs in eight innings of work. He
also struck out four and walked only two to earn his first victory
of the season.
Saxon made an immediate impact in his first four games as a
collegian, batting .619 (13-for-21) with 10 runs scored and nine
RBIs. Six of his hits were for extra bases, including four doubles,
a triple and a home run. In his first game for the Cougars, Saxon
had five hits, four runs and four RBIs to lead Caldwell to a 22-9
thumping of Molloy College on Feb. 23.
The Cougars return to action on Mar. 10 with a doubleheader at
Southern Connecticut State.
