LMU 16, CC 6
CC 6, LMU 4
HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost to Lincoln Memorial 14-6 before coming back to win the second game of a doubleheader, 6-4 Wednesday afternoon at Hennon Field. The split gives the Cougars an overall record of 7-4, including a 3-2 mark in Tennessee, while the Railsplitters are now 22-11. Freshman Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) had two double, a home run and five runs batted in on the day.

The Cougars trailed early after LMU put six runs on the board in the first two innings. Freshman Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) doubled home junior Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) in the top of the fifth for Caldwell’s first run. Then Caldwell scored three runs in the sixth, including an RBI groundout by Saxon, to cut the deficit to 6-4. But the Railsplitters put the game away with a 10-run explosion in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman pitcher Buddy Riggs (Coral Springs, FL/Taravella) took the loss for Caldwell, allowing 10 hits and seven runs in five-plus innings.

In the second game, Saxon put the Cougars up 2-0 with a two-run homer in the top of the first. After LMU tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, junior Ryan Glasco (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) and freshman Omar Velazquez (Astoria, NY/Long Island City) led off the third with back-to-back doubles that gave the lead back to Caldwell. Later that inning, Saxon hit a sacrifice fly that plated Velazquez, then senior Billy Ryan (Toms River, NJ/Manchester) singled home Murphy to put Caldwell ahead 5-2. Ryan also had an RBI single in the top of the fifth for the Cougars’ final run.

Sophomore right-hander Eric Hines (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) improved to 2-2 on the season, giving up nine hits and four runs while striking out five in six innings of work. Saxon, Murphy and Ryan each had two hits to pace the Cougar bats.

Caldwell completes its Tennessee trip with a game at Tusculum College on Thursday, Mar. 22, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
