GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost a non-conference game to 29th-ranked Tusculum College, 10-6 Monday afternoon at Pioneer Park. The Cougars, who received two hits and a pair of RBIs from freshman Doug Hilgenberg (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central), drop to 5-3 on the season, while Tusculum improves to 24-10.

The Pioneers took control of the game early with eight runs in the first four innings. Two more runs in the sixth put Tusculum ahead 10-0 before the Cougars made a comeback attempt. Freshman Raymond Keelan (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) knocked in Caldwell's first run of the game with a single in the top of the seventh. Hilgenberg belted a two-run double in the eighth, then came home on an error to cut the Pioneers' lead to 10-4. Senior Efrain Velazquez (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.), pictured, and freshman Omar Velazquez (Astoria, NY/Long Island City) also scored on Tusculum errors to make it 10-6. But the Cougars were unable to get any closer, as the loss evened Caldwell's record in Tennessee to 1-1.

Sophomore Eric Hines (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) started the game and gave up eight runs, five earned, and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings to fall to 1-2 on the year. Tusculum's Michael Handley shut down the Cougars for six innings, allowing five hits and no runs to improve to 3-1.

The Cougars play a doubleheader with Carson-Newman College on Tuesday, Mar. 20, with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Jefferson City, Tenn.
