MURPHY, PFEIL EARN CACC WEEKLY ACCOLADES FOR BASEBALL

CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College baseball players Tommy Murphy (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) and Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Acad.) were chosen the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively for the week ending Apr. 6, the league announced today. The pair helped the Cougars go 6-1 against conference opponents last week.

Murphy, a senior shortstop and designated hitter, batted .455 with two doubles, a home run and two runs batted in last week. In a doubleheader sweep at Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, he was 5-for-8 with a double and a homer as the Cougars won 3-2 and 9-5. He also had multi-hit games in wins over Nyack College on Apr. 1 and Dominican College on Apr. 3. Murphy, who started the season with at least one hit in 15 of his first 17 games, leads the team with a .379 batting average and seven stolen bases so far this season.

Pfeil tossed a pair of complete-game gems, going 2-0 with an earned run average of 0.64 in two starts last week. On Tuesday, he pitched a one-hit shutout of Nyack in a 1-0 victory, striking out 11 and walking four in seven innings. Then on Saturday, he held Post University to one run on seven hits in seven innings of work in a 7-1 Caldwell win. In the two games combined, Pfeil tallied 19 strikeouts while walking six in 14 innings. He is 3-2 with an ERA of 1.49 on the season.

The Cougars host Philadelphia University on Tuesday, Apr. 8 in a CACC game at Smith Field in Parsippany, N.J. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
