PFEIL NAMED ECAC CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK

4-11-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College junior Stephen Pfeil (Hampstead, NH/Pinherton Acad.) was selected the ECAC co-Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Apr. 6, the organization announced. Pfeil, who also received Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week honors on Apr. 7, won both of his starts in dominating fashion to help the Cougars go 6-1 last week.

Pfeil tossed a pair of complete-game gems, going 2-0 with an earned run average of 0.64 in two starts last week. On Apr. 1, he pitched a one-hit shutout of Nyack in a 1-0 victory, striking out 11 and walking four in seven innings. Then on Apr. 6, he held Post University to one run on seven hits in seven innings of work in a 7-1 Caldwell win. In the two games combined, Pfeil tallied 19 strikeouts while walking six in 14 innings. He is 3-2 with an ERA of 1.49 on the season.

The ECAC's membership includes 320 colleges and universities from Maine to Georgia and westerly to Illinois. Caldwell student-athletes have received weekly and year-end honors from the ECAC since joining the organization in 2004, and the men's and women's soccer teams and men's and women's basketball teams have competed in ECAC championship tournaments.

The Cougars, who are 16-12 overall and 10-5 in the conference, play a CACC doubleheader at Philadelphia University on Saturday, Apr. 12. The first pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
