PARSIPPANY,
N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team lost to Philadelphia
University, 5-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game
Tuesday afternoon at Smith Field. The Cougars, playing their sixth
game in four days, are now 15-11 overall and 9-4 in the conference,
while the Rams improve to 4-13, 3-2 CACC.
Both pitchers dominated the hitters for most of the game, as the
teams combined for just four hits over the first five innings. In
the top of the sixth, the Rams scored two runs on a throwing error
to lead 2-0. Caldwell answered in the bottom of the sixth with a
solo home run by sophomore Adric Saxon (Coral Springs,
FL/Broward CC), his team-leading fourth of the season. But that is
all the offense the Cougars could muster off of Philadelphia starter
Kyle Noonan, who allowed just four hits and one run in a
complete-game effort. The Rams scored three more runs in the bottom
of the ninth on a hit, two walks and an error for a 5-1 win.
Sophomore Robert Casal (Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep)
also went the distance, striking out 12 batters and walking seven
while giving up six hits and five runs, two earned, to fall to 4-4.
The Cougars get a rare day off before hosting Dominican College on
Thursday, Apr. 10 for a CACC doubleheader at Smith Field. The first
pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. in Parsippany, N.J.
