SAXON SELECTED CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

3-3-08
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College sophomore outfielder Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) was named the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week of the 2008 season, the league announced today. Saxon helped the Cougars start the season 3-2 at the Northeast Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Feb. 22-24.

Additionally, junior right-hander Eric Hines (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) and freshman catcher Gabriel Molina (Bronx, NY/Monroe) received honorable mention for the weekly honors.

The 2007 CACC Rookie of the Year, Saxon batted .450 with three doubles, a home run and seven runs batted in at the Northeast Challenge. In an 8-3 victory over Molloy College on Feb. 23, he drove in six runs on a three-run homer and two doubles. Then in the finale against Mercy College on Feb. 24, Saxon singled home senior Chris Chiarappa (Elmont, NY/Holy Trinity) in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 4-3 victory. He also had three hits against Mercy.

Last season, Saxon led the nation in runs batted in per game (1.55) while earning all-CACC first team and all-Northeast Region second team honors. He was listed along with sophomore Robert Casal (Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep) as a preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Hines held Molloy to four hits and one earned run while striking out six in 7 2/3 innings in his first start of the season. Molina, who homered against Dowling College Feb. 22 in his second collegiate at-bat, hit .389 with three doubles, a home run and six RBIs in Myrtle Beach.

Caldwell's next game is on Saturday, Mar. 8 against fifth-ranked Franklin Pierce University. The non-conference doubleheader will be played at Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y., with the first game starting at 11:00 a.m.
