SAXON SELECTED CACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

N.J. - Caldwell College sophomore outfielder
Adric Saxon (Coral Springs, FL/Broward CC) was named the first
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week
of the 2008 season, the league announced today. Saxon helped the
Cougars start the season 3-2 at the Northeast Challenge in Myrtle
Beach, S.C., Feb. 22-24.
Additionally, junior right-hander Eric Hines (Milltown,
NJ/Spotswood) and freshman catcher Gabriel Molina (Bronx,
NY/Monroe) received honorable mention for the weekly honors.
The 2007 CACC Rookie of the Year, Saxon batted .450 with three
doubles, a home run and seven runs batted in at the Northeast
Challenge. In an 8-3 victory over Molloy College on Feb. 23, he
drove in six runs on a three-run homer and two doubles. Then in the
finale against Mercy College on Feb. 24, Saxon singled home senior
Chris Chiarappa (Elmont, NY/Holy Trinity) in the bottom of
the 10th inning for a 4-3 victory. He also had three hits against
Mercy.
Last season, Saxon led the nation in runs batted in per game (1.55)
while earning all-CACC first team and all-Northeast Region second
team honors. He was listed along with sophomore Robert Casal
(Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep) as a preseason All-American by
Collegiate Baseball.
Hines held Molloy to four hits and one earned run while striking out
six in 7 2/3 innings in his first start of the season. Molina, who
homered against Dowling College Feb. 22 in his second collegiate
at-bat, hit .389 with three doubles, a home run and six RBIs in
Myrtle Beach.
Caldwell's next game is on Saturday, Mar. 8 against fifth-ranked
Franklin Pierce University. The non-conference doubleheader will be
played at Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y., with the first
game starting at 11:00 a.m.
