KEELAN NAMED TO ABCA ALL-EAST REGION FIRST TEAM
5-22-09
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College junior outfielder Ray Keelan (Barnegat,
NJ/Southern Regional) received All-East Region first team honors from the
American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced. This is
the second All-Region award this season for Keelan, who was included on the
Daktronics Division II All-East Region second team.
Keelan earned a spot on the all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference first
team after leading the Cougars in seven offensive categories, including
batting average (.387), hits (58), home runs (eight) and runs batted in
(48). He was the only player in the CACC to rank among the top three in
homers (second), RBI (second) and batting average (third). Keelan also had
19 multi-hit games, highlighted by a 4-for-4 performance against Concordia
on Apr. 13. In an 11-5 extra-inning win over Bloomfield on Apr. 26, Keelan tied the game on a solo home
run in the seventh inning, then hit a three-run homer in the eighth
to help clinch the victory. He was named the CACC Player of the Week
on Apr. 28 after batting .600 with four doubles, three home runs, 11 runs
and 18 RBI in six games. Keelan, who made the all-CACC second team twice
before being included on the first team this year, has 176 hits in his career to rank second all-time at
Caldwell.
Caldwell, coached by Jay Messina, finished the season 18-23,
including a CACC record of 12-15.
