BASEBALL INCLUDED IN NATIONAL, REGIONAL RANKINGS

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College baseball team is ranked 25th in the latest PING! Baseball Division II College Baseball Rankings. This is the third time this season the Cougars have been included in the PING! national rankings. Additionally, the Cougars are fourth in the season's first East Region Poll, conducted by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Caldwell was 28th in the PING! preseason poll on Jan. 16, then moved to 24th in the poll released on Feb. 23. The Cougars are the only team in the national and regional rankings that has yet to play a game in the 2009 season. The season is set to get underway on Thursday, Mar. 12 at Pace University, who is ranked sixth in the NCBWA East Region Poll. The Cougars then head to Florida, where they will face No. 12 Franklin Pierce University, the region's top ranked team, on Saturday, Mar. 14. Other regionally-ranked opponents Caldwell will face in Florida include eighth-ranked Southern Connecticut State (Mar. 14) and second-ranked UMass-Lowell (Mar. 16). The University of New Haven (Mar. 17) and Merrimack College (Mar. 18) received votes in the poll.

The Cougars, coached by Jay Messina, start the 2009 season at Pace University on Thursday, Mar. 12, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
