CALDWELL GOLF SQUAD RECEIVES GCAA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM HONORS
9-1-09
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College golf team was honored by the Golf
Coaches Association of America as an All-Academic Team, the organization
announced today. Caldwell was one of just seven teams in Division II to
be recognized by the GCAA, which requires a team grade-point average of
3.0 or higher to earn All-Academic Team status.
The Cougars, coached by Mike Andrusin, turned in a team GPA of
3.26 for the 2008-09 academic year, with four of the five players on the
roster posting GPAs over 3.0. Last spring's team consisted of Daniel Garcia
(Guadalajara, Mexico/German School), Randy Kurzinsky
(Barnesville, PA/Dr. Phillips), Brian Luyster
(Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills), Chris Parker (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial)
and
Kyle Wiedemann (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon).
"To be one of a small number of schools at our level to receive this
award is a great accomplishment," said Mark A. Corino, Caldwell's
Executive Director of Athletics. "It makes all of us proud when we hear
about the success of our student-athletes in the classroom, and I
congratulate the team members for their outstanding achievement."
A total of 82 colleges and universities qualified for All-Academic Team
accolades. Division I East Tennessee State recorded the highest team GPA
at 3.78. Other Division II institutions honored include Barry, Georgia
College, Indiana (PA), Lynn, St. Mary's (TX) and Saginaw Valley State.
This past spring, Caldwell placed fifth at the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference Tournament. Garcia, who tied for seventh overall
at the CACC Tournament, became the first Caldwell golfer to be invited
to the NCAA East Region Championship.
