GARCIA RECEIVES INVITATION TO NCAA GOLF SUPER REGIONAL

4-24-09
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College freshman Daniel Garcia (Guadalajara, Mexico/German School) was selected to play in the NCAA Division II Super Regional, held at The Glades Springs Resort in Beckley, W. Va., May 4-6. Garcia, who is one of four individuals and 10 teams chosen to represent the East Region, is the first golfer from Caldwell College to advance to a regional tournament in the 15-year history of the program.

The Super Regional, hosted by Concord University, combines the East and Atlantic regions and is one of four Super Regional tournaments being contested at the Division II level. The finals will be held in Blaine, Wash., at Loomis Trail Golf Club May 19-22.

Garcia earned a spot in the Super Regional by posting a stroke average of 76.07 over 10 events during the fall and spring seasons. He was the Cougars' low scorer in six of them, including overall medalist honors at the USP Invitational Oct. 9 and the Holy Family Invitational Oct. 17. In seven out of 14 rounds this season, Garcia shot a 75 or better, and posted a season-low score of 71 at the Holy Family Invitational. Earlier this week, Garcia and fellow freshman Randy Kurzinsky (Barnesville, PA/Dr. Phillips) earned all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference honors after finishing seventh and 10th, respectively, to help the Cougars place fifth in the team standings.

The 10 teams from the East Region that qualified for the Super Regional include Post, Goldey-Beacom and Wilmington from the CACC, Adelphi, St. Thomas Aquinas and Dowling from the East Coast Conference, and Le Moyne, UMass-Lowell, Assumption and Southern New Hampshire from the Northeast 10. Along with Garcia, the individuals from the East are Andrew Lee of Dominican, Kent St. Charles of Pace and Matt Horton of St. Rose.
