Head Coach Ron Gerhold
Montclair State ‘04
Second season
Most coaches agree that prior playing experience is beneficial when
coaching at the collegiate level. For Caldwell College’s new men’s golf
coach Ron Gerhold, his playing experience is still fresh in his memory,
having completed his college playing career in 2004 as a member
of the Montclair State golf team.
“I think it certainly helps that I understand the challenges and demands
experienced by student-athletes,” Gerhold said. “I’m excited to get the
opportunity to coach a college golf team, and I hope we can become a
competitive team at Caldwell.”
Gerhold spent four years on the golf team at Montclair State, serving as
team captain his senior year. But graduation didn’t signal the end of
his playing career, as Gerhold continues to compete as a professional
after turning pro in 2005. Gerhold, who boasts a 1-handicap, qualified for the 2004 New
Jersey State Amateur tournament. He has shot a low competitive round of
three-under par 67.
Along with his responsibilities at Caldwell, Gerhold is the assistant
golf professional at Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point, N.Y.
A native of Emerson, N.J., Gerhold was an all-state performer in both
track and cross country at Emerson High School, and originally attended
Iona College on a running scholarship.
Gerhold graduated form Montclair State last spring with a Bachelor’s
degree in biology. He currently resides in Emerson, N.J. |
