PEREZ, HARRIS NAMED TO ALL-CACC SQUADS
2-28-05
CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor,
NJ/Egg Harbor) was chosen the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
Newcomer of the Year, the conference announced today. Perez, who leads
Caldwell College in scoring and rebounding, also made the All-CACC
second team, while senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton
Central) was selected to the third team. The voting was done by the
league's 11 head coaches.
Perez
ranks among the conference's leaders in scoring, averaging 15.6 points
per game, tops among CACC newcomers. He also averages 5.7 rebounds per
contest and is shooting 58.2 percent from the field. The 6-7 forward has
scored 20 points or more eight times while reaching double-digits in 22
of 28 games. He was the NJ Hoops Division II Player of the Month
for January, and received CACC Player of the Week honors on Feb. 7.
Perez helped the Cougars wrap up third place in the conference with a
career-high 31 points to go with 12 rebounds in an 89-62 victory over
Holy Family on Feb. 25.
Harris
has averaged 12.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.1 steals per
game while starting 27 of the Cougars' 28 games. The 5-10 guard ranks
among the top 10 in the country in steals while leading the conference
in that category. He swiped 87 steals so far this year to break his own
school record for steals in a season, giving him 192 thefts in his
two-year career at Caldwell.
The Cougars finished the regular season with a record of 15-13,
including a 14-6 mark in the CACC. As the third seed in the CACC
Tournament, the Cougars host sixth-seeded N.J.I.T. on Tuesday, Mar. 1,
at 7:30 p.m. at the Newman Center. Caldwell also will be the site of the
semifinals and finals of the CACC Tournament on Mar. 4-5.
