ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Freshman center Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) poured in a team-high 26 points, but the Caldwell College men's basketball team lost a triple-overtime thriller to host Alaska-Anchorage, 92-87, Thursday night in the first game of the AT&T Alascom Jamboree at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. The Cougars dropped to 0-2 on the season, while the victory came in the season opener for the Seawolves.

The game was tight throughout as neither team led by more than eight points during the 55 minutes of play. The Cougars took a 33-30 lead at the half and led by as many as seven midway through the second half. After an 8-0 run gave the Seawolves a 49-48 lead with 8:22 remaining in regulation, Caldwell scored five straight points, capped off by a dunk by Perez, that put the Cougars out in front, 54-49 at the 5:52 mark. Alaska-Anchorage tied the game at 54-54, but Caldwell recovered and had a 60-57 advantage with 1:26 to go after a basket by freshman B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior). With the clock winding down, A-A's Marcus Robinson nailed a three-pointer with 0:11 on the clock to tie the game and send it to overtime.

In the first overtime period, four free throws and a three-pointer by sophomore Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) (above) put the Cougars up by two, 67-65, with just 26 seconds left. Again, Robinson saved the day for the Seawolves by scoring a lay-up with 10 seconds remaining to force a second extra period.

Caldwell led by four midway through the third overtime after Perez's basket made it 73-69. A three-point play by Robinson and a free throw by freshman Adam Sabree (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) made the score 74-72 in favor of the Cougars. But with 29 seconds left, Bryan Freshwater scored on a lay-up was fouled, and converted the free throw to give the Seawolves a 75-74 advantage. Sabree was fouled with 18 seconds on the clock, and he tied the score at 75-75 with his first free throw but was unable to make the second.

Unlike in the first two overtime periods, the Cougars never held the lead in the third OT, with the Seawolved building an 88-81 advantage with just 43 seconds left. But a pair of three-pointers by senior Angelo Garcia (Princeton, NJ/Susan Wagner) (right) and freshman Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship) gave Caldwell life, trailing 88-87 with 20 seconds left. But the Seawolves hit their free throws down the stretch, leaving the Cougars just short of their first victory of the season.

Perez also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with his 26 points in just his second collegiate game. Georges finished with 11 points, senior Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) had 10 points and three steals, and Suchy recorded seven points, eight rebounds and a team-high five assists for Caldwell. Robinson led all scorers with 28 points, including 17 points during the final two minutes of regulation and the three overtime periods.

The Cougars wrap up the AT&T Alascom Jamboree Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, when they face Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University.
