N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost to Bloomfield
College, 78-63 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday
afternoon. The defeat drops the Cougars to 8-11 overall and 7-4 in the
CACC, a half-game behind the Deacons, who are 8-4 in the conference and
13-6 on the season.
Bloomfield took control in the first half and led by as many as 18
points. After a tip-in by Javier Salson made it 40-23 with a minute left
in the half, a three-pointer and lay-up back-to-back by sophomore guard
Nolan Hall (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), pictured,
sandwiched around a steal by freshman guard Michael Wise
(Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship) cut the lead to 40-28 at the half.
The Cougars started the second half with a 7-2 run, including a
three-pointer by junior guard Kelvin Reese (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck),
that made the score 42-35 with 18:01 left. Bloomfield built the lead
back up to 13 with six straight points before Caldwell responded with a
pair of threes from Hall that cut the Deacon lead to 48-41 with 14:42 on
the clock. But Bloomfield iced the game with a 13-2 run that put the
Deacons up 61-43 at the 7:51 mark of the second half. The Cougars got to
within 12 after a three by Harris made it 70-58 with just over two
minutes remaining, but they would get no closer.
Hall led Caldwell with 15 points while making 4-of-7 from behind the
arc. Harris and freshman forward Manny Perez each scored 10 points,
while junior forward Teren Scudder (Paterson, NJ/Paterson
Catholic) grabbed a team-high seven boards. Salson led all scorers with
19 points and had 13 rebounds to pace the Deacons.
Caldwell's next game is on Thursday, Feb. 3, when the Cougars play at
Post University, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
