OAKDALE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 74-73 victory at Dowling College in a non-conference game Wednesday night. The Cougars are now 3-8 on the season, while Dowling drops to 1-7.

The Cougars never trailed in the first half, leading by as many as 10 points, including a 36-36 advantage at the half. Freshman forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) paced Caldwell with 11 first half points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field. Dowling started the second half on fire with a 11-3 run that cut the Caldwell lead to 39-37 with 14:12 on the clock. But Caldwell, with help from five points from freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) (pictured), worked the lead up to 11 points with 10:16 remaining.

The Cougars continued to hold the upper hand, and led 70-60 with 2:00 left in the game when Dowling made a final push. Three straight baskets sandwiched around a pair of Caldwell turnovers cut the lead to four with 22 seconds left. Then after sophomore guard Nolan Hall (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) made 1-of-2 from the line, Genc Selimi scored to cut it to three. Hall was fouled on the next play and again made one free throw, followed by a pair of free throws from Selimi. With the Cougars up 72-70 with six seconds remaining, freshman guard Adam Sabree (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) put the game away by hitting both of his free throws. A desperation three-pointer at the buzzer went in for Abdur Kareem, but the Cougars pick up their first win in four games.

Perez finished with 14 points and five rebounds to lead Caldwell, while Suchy had 13 points. Senior forward Angelo Garcia (Princeton, NJ/Susan Wagner) matched his career best with 10 points while shooting 7-of-8 from the line, and senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) had nine points and four steals. Dowling's Wayne Holt and Jean Pierre tied for game-high honors with 18 points each.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Dec. 30, when they play at Stonehill College in a rematch of the season opener.
