N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost to Felician
College, 78-66 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday
night at the Newman Center. The loss dropped the Cougars to 9-12 on the
season, including an 8-5 record in CACC play, while the Golden Falcons
improved to 10-9, 7-5 in the conference.
The Cougars started out cold, making just 1-of-6 from the field as
Felician built a 12-4 lead in the first four minutes of the game. But
Caldwell battled back with a 26-14 run, topped off with a three from
sophomore guard Nolan Hall (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) to
take a 30-24 lead with 2:34 left in the half. The Golden Falcons then
took control of the game by out-scoring Caldwell 15-2 to end the half.
Craig Banton nailed three straight three-pointers as he scored 11 of
Felician's points in the run to give his team a 39-32 advantage at the
half.
Banton opened up the second half with another three to kick-start a 12-2
run in the first six minutes of the half as Felician led 51-34. Caldwell
never got closer than 10 points, as the Golden Eagles led by as many as
23 points in the second half to cruise to its second win over the
Cougars this season. Banton finished with 17 points, including five
three-pointers, to lead Felician.
Caldwell was led by freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor,
NJ/Egg Harbor), pictured, who was a perfect 16-of-16 from the free throw
line en route to 24 points. He also paced the Cougars with seven
rebounds. Senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central)
tallied 19 points and four steals in the loss.
The Cougars' next game is on Monday, Feb. 7, when they host Wilmington
College at the Newman Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
