ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - The Caldwell College men's basketball team completed its first-ever trip to Alaska with a 79-74 loss to Grand Canyon University in the final game of the AT&T Alascom Jamboree in Anchorage, Alaska, Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. The Cougars are now 0-3 on the season, while the Antelopes, a 70-66 winner over host Alaska-Anchorage on Friday, improves to 2-0.

The Cougars, who lost a triple-overtime thriller to the Seawolves on Thursday night, trailed throughout the game with Grand Canyon. After making just 24.1 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half, the Cougars heating things up in the second half with 60.0 percent shooting. However, despite tying the game three times, Caldwell was unable to take the lead. After spotting the Antelopes a 36-27 lead with 15:42 remaining, The cougars, with help from a pair of threes by junior guard Mark Kelly (Oakhurst, NJ/Oakhurst), tied the game at 40-40 with 12:40 to go. Then with the Cougars trailing 58-53, sophomore guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) scored seven points, including a steal and lay-up that tied the game at 60-60 at the 6:34 mark. But an 8-0 GCU run that included threes by Emil Swain and Noe Alonzo, put the game out of reach. Caldwell came within 77-74 with 24 seconds to go after a three-pointer by Kelly, but free throws by Swain and Kevin Stevenson iced the victory for the Antelopes.

Georges went 3-of-4 from three-point range en route to a team-high 17 points to lead Caldwell. Kelly finished with 16 points in just 15 minutes after making 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) followed his 26-point effort against Alaska-Anchorage with 15 points and five rebounds.
