CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman guard Adam Sabree (Detroit, MI/Renaissance), pictured, scored a career-high 16 points as the Caldwell College men's basketball team defeated N.J.I.T., 75-54 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday night at the George R. Newman Center. The win improves the Cougars to 3-2 in the conference and 4-9 overall, while the Highlanders fall to 6-8 on the season and 5-2 in the CACC.

The Cougars, who never trailed in the game, jumped out to a 22-7 lead in the game's first 13 minutes as N.J.I.T. made just 3-of-16 from the field during that stretch. The Highlanders, on the strength of a pair of threes from guard Ian Boyle, were able to cut the Cougar lead to 27-21 before halftime. Senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) paced Caldwell with six points in the first half.

The Cougars came out of the locker room on fire, as back-to-back three-pointers by Sabree and Harris ignited a 10-0 Caldwell run in the first three minutes of the second half. The lead would grow to 21 after a lay-up by freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) made the score 56-35 at the 9:55 mark. The Highlanders battled to within 62-50 with 4:08 remaining in the game, but Caldwell closed out the game with a 13-4 run, including seven from sophomore guard Nolan Hall (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional), as the Cougars picked up an important CACC victory.

Caldwell attained season-bests in field goal (58.5 percent) and three-point (63.6 percent) shooting while limiting the Highlanders, who entered tonight's game atop the CACC standings, to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field.

Sabree was a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and added three assists in his best game to date, while Harris finished with 15 points. Perez recorded 14 points, seven boards and a career-best three steals, and Hall grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go with 11 points and four assists. Boyle led all scorers with 18 points, including four three-pointers.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Jan. 13, when they play at Dominican College in another important CACC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
