CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central), pictured, poured in a game-high 28 points as the Caldwell College men's basketball team defeated Nyack College, 67-56 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday night at the George R. Newman Center. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 8-10 overall and 7-3 in the CACC, while the Warriors fall to 10-7, 5-4 in the conference.

The Warriors led for much of the first half and took an 11-point lead after two straight threes from guard Adam Bauman made it 19-8 with 7:42 left in the half. But the Cougars battled back to take their first lead of the game with an 18-6 run, capped off by a lay-up by freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor). A three-pointer by Mufutau Ibrahim and a breakaway dunk by Frank Conias made it 30-26 Nyack with 1:23 left. But Conias was called for a technical, and Harris made 1-of-2 at the line to cut the lead to 30-27. Harris then finished the half with four straight successful trips to the line to give the Cougars a 31-30 advantage at the break.

Nyack briefly regained the lead on a jumper by Latavia Escho in the first minute of the game. The Cougars responded with 12 straight points, including a pair of threes and a lay-up from Harris, to take a 43-32 lead at the 15:46 mark. That proved to be the difference in the game as Caldwell would lead by as many as 15. Nyack came within 64-56 with 1:21 left in the game, but an uncontested lay-up by freshman guard Michael Wise (Whitesboro, NJ/Middletownship) off a long in-bounds pass from Harris iced the game for the Cougars. Caldwell shot 47.6 percent from the floor in the second half, while Nyack was held to 23.1 percent.

Harris, who has scored 85 points in his last three games, went 7-of-12 from the field and 12-of-14 from the line in the victory. He also had three steals. Junior forward Teren Scudder (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Catholic) led the Cougars with nine rebounds, while Perez, sophomore guard Nolan Hall (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and junior guard Kelvin Reese (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) each tallied nine points. Bauman finished with 13 points to pace Nyack.

The Cougars return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 29, as the Cougars play at Bloomfield College. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
