PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost to Pace University, 77-66, in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Cougars dropped to 2-7 on the season, while the Setters won their sixth straight contest to improve to 7-2.

The Cougars shot 50 percent from the field while holding the Setters to 28.6 percent in the first half as Caldwell took a 34-32 lead at the half. Freshman forward B.J. Suchy (Ronkonkoma, NY/Our Savior) (pictured) scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the game's first 20 minutes as the Cougars led by as many as seven.

The game remained close in the second half, with Caldwell taking a 53-48 lead with just over nine minutes left  in the game on three straight foul shots from junior guard Mark Kelly (Oakhurst, NJ/Oakhurst). But a 14-3 Pace run put the Setters up 62-56 with 3:57 to go. A pair of free throws from Kelly and a lay-up by junior guard Kelvin Reese (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) got the Cougars to within two with just under three minutes remaining, but they were unable to regain the lead. Pace's Maurice Douglas had a three-pointer and a pair of baskets to key a 15-3 run late in the game.

Kelly finished with a season-high 18 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc to lead Caldwell. Suchy notched just two points after the break to finish with a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) swiped a career-high eight steals to go with 11 points and three assists. Ryan Williams led all scorers with 24 points, while Douglas finished with 15 points and seven boards.

The Cougars return to action on Monday, Dec. 20, when they host nationally-ranked St. Anselm at 7:30 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
