WATERBURY, Conn. - Trailing 56-39 with 15:11 left in the game, the Caldwell College men's basketball team fought back to defeat Post University, 81-79 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday night at the Drubner Center. The victory gives the Cougars an overall record of 9-11 (8-4 CACC) and a season sweep of the Eagles, who are now 4-15 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

The first half saw six ties and 11 lead changes as the Cougars never led by more than three points. The Eagles used a 13-4 run to take control of the game late in the first half and went into the break leading 42-33. A 10-6 run to open the second half, capped off by a lay-up by Justin Skipwith, gave Post a 17-point lead with 15:11 remaining. A three-pointer by sophomore guard Nolan Hall (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) began a 19-5 Cougar run that cut the Eagles' lead to 61-58 with 9:50 on the clock. Post answered with 10 straight points over the next 3:35 to build a 71-58 lead.

Again Caldwell battled back with a 16-4 run, punctuated by a dunk by freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor), pictured, that made it 75-74 with 2:11 left. After two Eagles' field goals, lay-ups by Hall and junior forward Teren Scudder (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Catholic) cut the lead to 79-78 with less than a minute to go. Scudder then blocked Joel Feagin's shot attempt, and senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) was fouled. Harris tied the game with his first attempt from the line but missed the second. He then stole the ball from Skipwith and missed the lay-up, only to have Perez put the rebound home for an 81-79 Caldwell lead with 4.5 seconds left. The Eagles tapped in a missed shot attempt at the buzzer, but the officials determined that the basket came after time had expired.

The Cougars shot 52.9 percent from the field and forced 13 turnovers in the second half to fuel the comeback. Perez finished with a career-high 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor, while Hall tallied 20 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Caldwell. Scudder scored a season-best 10 points and grabbed six boards, and Harris swiped eight steals to go with nine points and five assists. Skipwith led the Eagles with 19 points.

The Cougars return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 5, when they host Felician College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
