CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) scored a game-high 22 points and added eight rebounds and five assists as Caldwell defeated Post University 83-75 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball game Thursday evening at the George R. Newman Center. With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-5 on the season and 2-1 in the CACC, while Post falls to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

The Cougars started the game fast and earned a 23-8 lead after eight minutes of play, led by six points from freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor), including two consecutive dunks at the five-minute mark. After seven straight points from Post, the Cougars worked the lead up to 18 points with 2:30 left in the half, and took a 49-33 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The second half started slowly, but would change dramatically just under four minutes after the break. With the Cougars leading 54-37, Caldwell head coach Mark Corino was given two technical fouls and ejected from the game. The calls resulted in four straight free throws by Manny Perrotte, followed by a Caldwell turnover and a three-point play by Marques Brown that cut the Cougars' lead to 54-44 in just nine seconds of play. After Caldwell pushed the lead up to 15 at the 12:26 mark, a 15-2 Post run had the Eagles within four, 65-61 with 6:38 on the clock. A pair of three-pointers by Alex Tonne helped cut the lead to two points with 4:08 left. Then Post head coach Mike Donnelly picked up a technical foul, which was followed by two Perez free throws. A lay-up by Arthur Robinson brought the Eagles to within 75-73 with 1:42 remaining, but Caldwell used clutch free throw shooting and four straight defensive stops to ice the game.

The Cougars shot a season-high 56.5 percent from the field while holding the Eagles to 38.2 percent. Perez made all seven of his field goal attempts en route to 20 points and five rebounds, while junior guard Mark Kelly (Oakhurst, NJ/Oakhurst) was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field and finished with 10 points. Junior forward Teren Scudder (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Catholic) (pictured) grabbed 11 rebounds, all on the defensive glass, and blocked six shots. Perrotte finished with 20 points to lead Post, while Tonne and Robertson each had 13 points.

The Cougars return to action this Saturday, when they play at Felician College at 8:00 p.m. in a CACC game.
