CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior guard Ron Harris (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Central) scored 21 points as the Caldwell College men's basketball team overcame a sluggish start to beat Wilmington College, 82-66 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Monday night at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars improved to 10-12 overall and 9-5 in the CACC, while the Wildcats dropped to 2-18 on the season, 1-13 in conference play.

Wilmington used torrid shooting to take a 39-33 lead at the half. The Wildcats shot an amazing 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the field, led by Steve Christensen, who made all seven of his shots en route to 17 first-half points. Harris countered with 14 points, including 6-of-6 from the free throw line, as Caldwell shot 50.0 percent (9-of-18) from the field.

In the second half, Caldwell battled back to tie the game at 46-46 on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood), pictured, with 15 minutes remaining. A turnover by Christensen led to a Harris lay-up that gave the Cougars a 48-46 lead that they would not relinquish. A 17-4 run that included eight points from freshman forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) made the score 63-50 with 7:21 left and essentially put the game away as Caldwell would lead by as many as 18 points.

Harris shot 7-of-10 from the field and 7-of-10 from the line to lead the Cougars with 21 points. Perez, who was named the CACC Player of the Week today, scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half while making all eight of his attempts from the line. Perez has now made 24 straight free throws after having made 16-of-16 against Felician College on Saturday. Georges finished with 15 points while hitting four threes, and sophomore guard Nolan Hall (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and a career-best 10 boards to go with five assists. Christensen ended up going 9-of-10 from the field while making nine straight attempts to finish with a game-high 26 points.

Caldwell returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 9, when the Cougars host Dominican College in a CACC game. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
