COUGARS TO HOST DOMINICAN IN CACC QUARTERFINALS

2-27-06
CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team will host Dominican College in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students, with the first 150 Caldwell College students admitted for free. The winner will play either third-seeded Holy Family University or Post University on Friday, Mar. 3.

The Cougars, coached by Mark Corino, finished the regular season 18-12 overall and 14-8 in the CACC after defeating Philadelphia University, 67-63 on Saturday, Feb. 25 in the Newman Center. Although the Cougars took third in the conference standings, Caldwell holds the No. 2 seed in the CACC Tournament, as second-place Philadelphia is ineligible to play in the conference tourney this season. Like last year, when they advanced to the CACC title game before falling to Bloomfield College, the Cougars enter the tournament riding a four-game winning streak. Junior guard Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) and sophomore forward Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) pace Caldwell, averaging 17.1 and 15.9 points per game, respectively.

The Chargers earned the seventh seed in the tournament after finishing the season 10-12 in the conference and 11-16 overall. Dominican is led by the frontcourt duo of Prince Jackson and Taheim Stewart, who combine to average 35.0 points per game. The Cougars won both games against the Chargers this season, most recently earning a 56-53 decision in the Newman Center on Jan. 31.

The winners of Tuesday's quarterfinals advance to the semifinal round on Friday, Mar. 3. The semifinals and finals of both the men's and women's CACC Tournaments will be held at the University of Sciences' Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia, Pa.
