GEORGES, PEREZ NAMED TO ALL-CACC SECOND TEAM
2-27-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - Caldwell College men's basketball players Jean Georges (Vauxhal,
NJ/Spotswood) and Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) both
were selected to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference second
team by the league's 13 head coaches, the conference announced today.
This is the second year Perez has made the all-conference second team,
while Georges is making his first appearance on the all-CACC squad.
Georges,
a 6-3 junior guard, leads the Cougars in scoring with 17.1 points per
game, which ranks seventh in the CACC. He also ranks among the
conference leaders in steals (sixth), three-point shooting percentage
(ninth), three-pointers made (10th) and free throw shooting (15th).
Georges helped the Cougars compile an 18-12 overall record, including a
14-8 mark in the CACC, by leading his team in scoring in 14 of the
Cougars' 18 victories this season. He has scored 20 or more points 12
times, and tallied a career-best 29 points in a victory at Dominican
College on Jan. 12 that gave Cougars' head coach Mark Corino his
400th career win. His 514 points this season is the fifth-highest
single-season total in Caldwell history.
Perez,
a 6-7 sophomore forward, is averaging 15.9 points and a team-best 6.4
rebounds per contest to rank 11th and 15th in the CACC, respectively.
The 2005 CACC Newcomer of the Year, Perez also paces Caldwell in field
goal and free throw percentage. In the Cougars' 85-68 win at Post
University on Feb. 9, he tallied a career-best 34 points on 11-of-16
shooting from the field while going a perfect 12-of-12 from the free
throw line. Through 62 career games, Perez has scored 995 points,
leaving him just five points away from becoming the 12th men's
basketball player at Caldwell to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
The Cougars earned the No. 2 seed in this week's CACC Tournament and
will host Dominican College on Tuesday, Feb. 28 in the quarterfinals.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
