GEORGES, PEREZ NAMED ALL-MET

4-11-06
CALDWELL, N.J. - Caldwell College men's basketball players Jean Georges (Vauxhal, NJ/Spotswood) and Manny Perez (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor) were chosen to the all-Met Division II teams by the National Invitation Tournament and the Met Basketball Writers Association, the organizations announced today. Georges was named to the all-Met first team, while Perez was selected to the all-Met second team for the second straight year.

Georges, a 6-3 junior guard, led the Cougars in scoring this past season with 17.3 points per game, which ranked seventh in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. A second-team all-CACC selection, he also ranked among the conference leaders in steals (sixth), three-point shooting percentage (seventh), three-pointers made (ninth) and free throw shooting (15th). Georges helped the Cougars compile an 18-13 overall record, including a 14-8 mark in the CACC, by leading his team in scoring in 14 of the Cougars' 18 victories this season. He scored 20 or more points 12 times, and tallied a career-best 29 points in a victory at Dominican College on Jan. 12 that gave Cougars' head coach Mark Corino his 400th career win. His 536 points this season is the third-highest single-season total in Caldwell history.

Perez, a 6-7 sophomore forward, became the 12th Cougar to score 1,000 career points, reaching the milestone in the team's final game. Last season, Perez, also a second team all-CACC choice, averaged 16.1 points and a team-best 6.3 rebounds per contest to rank 11th and 15th in the CACC, respectively. The 2005 CACC Newcomer of the Year, Perez also paced Caldwell in field goal and free throw percentage. In the Cougars' 85-68 win at Post University on Feb. 9, he tallied a career-best 34 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field while going a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line. Through 63 career games, Perez has scored 1,015 points to rank 12th on Caldwell's all-time scoring list.

Georges, Perez and the rest of the all-Met award-winners will be honored at the 73rd annual NIT/MBWA college basketball awards dinner on Wednesday, April 19 in East Rutherford, N.J.
